The Royalty Burns Club was founded in 1882, but that it is a very lively nonagenarian was obvious at the annual dinner and dance in the Central Hotel, Glasgow, where a really festive atmosphere prevailed.
After the traditional meal Cliff Hanley took matters in hand in proposing "The Immortal Memory", which proved to be only a peg on which to hang a racy speech packed with anecdotes which had the large company, as they say, "in stitches."
The thanks to the orator was moved by Mr. Roy Grier and the toast of the Club was proposed by Mr. A. Shearer. A novel touch was provided by Mr. Robert S Millar and Mrs Margaret Skeoch, in proposing and acknowledging respectively the toast of "The Lasses," for they both spoke in rhyme.
An appeal for Burns beneficiaries by Mr. O. G. Prosser brought in the record sum of £230. All in, it was a memorable occasion and great credit is due to Mr. C. R. Blues, the president, Mr. J. G. Jaap, hon, secretary, and the committee who organised the event.

The St. Andrew's Day Dinner of the Royalty Burns Club, held in Sloan's Restaurant, Glasgow, with Mr. Robert Meiklem presiding, was one of the most successful of the series. The company of 130 made a record collection of £86 for the Burns benevolent, the appeal for which was made by Mr. A Laing (Sanderman and Sons).

The Royalty Burns Club.
The Royalty Burns Club celebrated their 92nd year with a record attendance at their annual dinner-dance in the Albany Hotel, Glasgow. A company of 470 members and friends gathered to honour Robert Burns.
Mr. Roy Grier, president, proposed "The Immortal Memory" and in a thoughtful and well delivered address, which received a standing ovation, spoke of the various aspects of the bard's character.

The toast "To the Lassies" was proposed in witty style by Mr. Micky Grant, sales director, Gilbey Vintners. Mrs. Helen Preston, president of the Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, and Kincardine Licensed Trade Association, was undoubtedly the star of the evening when she replied in verse.
Following an eloquent appeal by Ian Kennedy, Paisley, the sum of £310 was raised for Burns' benevolences. Mr. Charles Blues, in being presented with a past president's badge, thanked Mr. Roy Grier for his work on behalf of the club and complimented Mr. Harry Kerr, secretary, on the excellent arrangement made for the evening.
Among the top table guests were Mr. Peter Balfour, chairman Scottish and Newcastle Breweries and Chairman of the Year of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association; Mr Jack Gow, chairman, Scottish Licensed Trade Veto Defence Fund; Mr J. When members of the Royalty Burns Club spent an enjoyable day cruising down the Firth of Clyde recently aboard the T.S. Shieldhall, they had plenty of time for recreation.
